Want Ad for a Friend

by L. Lois

I just want a friend
who’s smart
values reading
writes a bit
knows good from bad
with common sense

woman or man or in-between
preferably close enough
to walk
not afraid of time
lingering
dear

judgment that flies
between equals
love dripping from
goodbyes
never a question
of cutting off

laughter at absurdity
tears at beauty
holding space
for each other
never whole
always present

About the Author:

L. Lois lives in an urban hermitage where trauma-informed themes flow during walks by the ocean. She is pivoting through her grandmother-era, figuring out why her bevy of adult children don’t have babies, nor time. Her poems have appeared in Progenitor Journal, Twisted Vine, Woodland Pattern and In Parentheses.
