He Faces

By Diane Webster

Notice every image you see
of solitude
one person appears
with his back toward you.

He faces the ocean,
the distant mountains,
the moon in a star-bespeckled sky,
the sunset radiating in panorama,
the forest ascending to touch fog.

He faces expanse.
